TAMANDARÉ (PERNAMBUCO STATE)

- AREA DESCRIPTION – Tamandaré is a city in the southern portion of Pernambuco, located at 109 km from Recife, the state capital. Here we will find typical Atlantic Forest vegetation with patches of restinga (coastal vegetation) and mangroves. Therefore, the vegetation is dense with medium and big-sized trees that together creates a dense forest, with many forest-dependent bird species. Tamandaré is a beach town with strong touristic appeal. The city offers various options for hotels and restaurants. This will be a good spot during your tour to relax and regain the energy swimming by the beach, eating delicious seafood and having a caipirinha.

- MAIN TARGET SPECIES – The main target in Tamandaré is the Forbes's Blackbird (Anumara forbesi), an endangered species with a very restricted geographical distribution. This species can only be found in the Atlantic Forest fragments from the Pernambuco Endemism Center. The observation areas are near the PE-060 state freeway, making it easy arrive to areas quickly and access the sighting spots. Other species that can be found here are the Chestnut-bellied Euphonia (Euphonia pectoralis), Lettered Aracari (Pteroglossus inscriptus), Brazilian Tanager (Ramphocelus bresilius), Black-capped Donacobius (Donacobius atricapilla), White-bellied Tody-Tyrant (Hemitriccus griseipectos), Northern Lesser Woodcreeper (Xiphorhynchus atlanticus), White-shouldered Antshrike (Thamnophilus aethiops distans).
