PAULISTA (PERNAMBUCO STATE)
- AREA DESCRIPTION – Paulista is a city located in the north coast of the Pernambuco State near its capital, Recife. In Paulista we can find important urban forest fragments such asthe Mata do Janga, the Mata Jaguarana and the Estação Ecológica de Caetés. The Mata Jaguarana is located by the PE-015 freeway, near Paulista’s urban center. It encompasses 332.28 hectares and is distributed among three private properties. The Estação Ecológica de Caetés is located at the margin of the Paratibe river and it covers 150 hectares.
- MAIN TARGET SPECIES – Our main target in Paulista is the amazing Racket-tailed Coquette (Discosura longicaudus). This species can be found more easily at specific sites during specific times of the year (September to April). Because of that, we will always have the company of a local guide, to increase our chances to successfully find it. Other typical species from the Atlantic Forest can be found in this area, such as the Pernambuco Piculet (Picumnus pernambucensis), White-flanked Antwren (Myrmotherula axillaris), Variable Antshrike (Thamnophilus caerulescens), Red-headed Manakin (Ceratopipra rubrocapilla), Green Honeycreeper (Chlorophanes spiza), White-collared Kite (Leptodon forbesi), Black-throated Mango (Anthracothorax nigricollis).
