FAZENDA TAMANDUÁ (PARAÍBA STATE)

- AREA DESCRIPTION– The Fazenda Tamanduá (anteater farm) is located in the Santa Terezinha municipality, near the city of Patos, in the western portion of the state, at about 300 km from the coast. A 4 to 5-hour drive will take you from the international airport of João Pessoa (2-hour drive from the Campina Grande Airport). The average altitude is 240 meters and the climate is typical from tropical semi-arid regions.  The average rainfall is 700 mm concentrated in 2 to 4 months. The farm is inside the Caatinga biome and it contains an heterogeneous vegetation which allows for a high diversity of bird species. The good infrastructure associated with the naturally built bird feeders provide great opportunities for amazing photographs in a comfortable setting. The Fazenda Tamanduá is an excellent destination for beginners and advanced birders!

- MAIN TARGET SPECIES – The Fazenda Tamanduá contains excellent trails and a 325 hectares of preserved vegetation as a Private Reserve.  Many waterbodies host migratory birds from North America, such as the Solitary Sandpiper (Tringa solitaria), Spotted Sandpiper (Actitis macularius) e Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus). Endemic species from Brazil, some of them exclusive from the Caatinga also occur such as the Caatinga Cacholote (Pseudoseisura cristata), Wing-banded Hornero (Furnarius figulus), Gray-headed Spinetail (Cranioleuca semicinerea), Scarlet-throated Tanager (Compsothraups loricata), Caatinga Antshrike (Thamnophilus capistratus), Broad-tipped Hermit (Anopetia gounellei), Red-shouldered Spinetail (Synallaxis hellmary), Stripe-backed Antbird (Myrmorchilus strigilatus), Pale Baywing (Agelaioides fringilarius).
